This is a full-day themed course.
Cultural competent practice is prevalent for all areas in Manchester and Nationwide and is a common theme in many serious case reviews.
Please apply for this course if you work with children, young people and adults in Manchester and need to understand issues around cultural competency in your work. Our personal views inform our role as professionals.
You need to have completed a basic awareness safeguarding course within the past 3 years to qualify for this course.
Understand the links between racial discrimination and the systems in which you work (inc. criminal justice, social care, health)
Recognise that experiences of racism and discrimination can impact an individual’s response to services
Increase your cultural sensitivity around race issues
Understand the role of culturally sensitive/specific support in removing cultural barriers to accessing services
Analyse the biases in your organisation and explore how to dismantle them
Recognise the impact of cultures, personal and institutional racism and attitudes of professionals and families when making assessments, plans and interventions.
